The Plastics Problem

The problem is plastic waste, and what we do with it, not plastic itself. Why has waste plastic become such a problem? The very properties of plastic that make it such a useful product (for example, it’s durable, waterproof, and not degraded by light) mean that it persists in the environment. The fact that it is so visible means that it is at the forefront of public consciousness. Over 8 billion tonnes of plastic has been produced to date, and more than 90% of that has never been recycled.

Our Mission

The Halocycle mission is to provide a solution to the plastics problem. We are deploying established microwave processing technology in an innovative fashion, as a means of recycling chlorine-containing plastics (e.g. PVC and PVDC).

We are proud to be a Certified B Corp, meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

Our Vision

Our vision is a more sustainable, circular lifecycle for plastics, leading to a dramatic reduction in plastic waste entering landfill, incineration, or otherwise leaking into the environment. The end-products of the Halocycle process - platform chemicals – can be returned into polymer production, helping increase the circularity of the plastics packaging supply chain.

Halocycle Testwork

We are currently undertaking testwork on waste PVC offcuts and other packaging.  Please contact us to discuss entering packaging into our chemical recycling trial programme
